Cardoner Program presents Rick Curry, SJ, in celebration of service Thursday April 7, 2011, 7:00 p.m. at the Lied Education for the Performing Arts, with reception to follow. Join us, as Fr. Curry, distinguished actor, baker, teacher and cookbook author, shares his story of how he was called to serve the disabled, civilian and veterans alike. Fr. Curry, who was born with one arm, started a non-profit theatre program where all disabled people would be welcome. He founded the National Theatre Workshop of the Handicapped in 1977. Recently he has moved the theater to Georgetown University where he will help coach veterans from Walter Reed and Bethesda on their monologues while assessing their psychological needs that have resulted from serving in the war. He specifically works with post traumatic stress and post traumatic stress disorder while working with military chaplains to address spiritual needs. He has been honored by the president of the United States with a Distinguished Service Award of the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities and been awarded two grants from the National Endowment for the Arts.
