Urinetown is a story set in the future where a drought of epic proportions has forced corrupt city officials to come up with a unique way to conserve water. The solution is that people may only use public restrooms and they have to pay for the "Privilege To Pee."
Fed up citizens take to the streets, but those caught breaking the law are carted off to the mysterious "Urinetown" and are never to be seen or heard from again.
It's a musical so there must be a love story too, but it is presented with an air of irony and sarcasm as if to mimic the most famous examples of this theatrical convention throughout the history of musical theatre. This high energy, Tony Award winning musical will entertain you from start to finish. And with any luck, it will leave you thinking about Urinetown's political relevance in our own society.
Creighton's Urinetown, directed by Leah Arington Frair, is set in a Gotham City and poignantly flavored with a comic book theme driving home the pertinent messages of the piece.
