Joy Eng, sophomore nursing student from Ewa Beach, Hawaii will be sharing her experience with Kalaupapa, on the island of Molokai where the Hansen's Disease patients of Hawai'i were sent and isolated because of their condition. “Interest in this group of people began long ago when I was a child and heard stories about this special population. When my mom became the Nursing Supervisor of Hale Mohalu, a small hospital that cares for the HD Patients on Oahu when they need medical care, I was able to connect with the patients personally, leading me to conducting my high school senior project about Kalaupapa.” She will be sharing the stories of those who lived in isolation, and what makes this population so unique.
