Generative AI Reading and Discussion Group

Reinert Alumni Library, CFE Training Room L33

Wednesday, October 2, 2024 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Register in Bridge - https://learning.creighton.edu/learner/training/e140fe2b/enroll
Facilitator: Jacob Rump, PhD, Philosophy, College of Arts & Sciences, CFE Faculty Associate

The Generative AI Reading Group will meet in-person (Zoom option for non-Omaha faculty/staff only) 2-3 times during the semester. Meetings will focus on discussion of some recent popular press/ general interest essays on generative AI, as well as some education-focused pieces on generative AI’s effect on teaching and learning. We will discuss the underlying issues with an eye to how they might change not only our assignments and assessments, but also our conceptions of what, how, and why we teach. Sessions will be informal interactions on the model of a reading or discussion group, rather than presentations.

The discussion will focus on the PDF you will receive upon registration. If you would like further content, here is another (optional) additional reading, which relates to a specific point in our previous discussion about question-based pedagogy: https://blog.apaonline.org/2024/05/14/introducing-the-question-focused-pedagogy-qfp-series/

By the end of the program, participants will be able to:
• Meaningfully discuss challenges for higher education posed by Generative Artificial Intelligence
• Articulate teaching strategies and insights to help teachers respond to those challenges
