How do we know how well our students are achieving our student learning outcomes? This workshop examines the use and value of direct and indirect measures of student assessment when trying to understand what students are learning in our courses/programs. In this workshop, we will discover the difference between grading and assessment. We will also examine how selecting certain direct and/or indirect measures can help improve our assessment process.

By the end of the program, participants will be able to:
• Explain the differences between grading and assessment.
• Develop examples of direct and indirect measures of assessment relevant to their courses/programs.
• Examine their own assessment practices to determine if alternative measures could improve their assessment practices.
